Title: A Quality / Quantity Perspective on Water Supply – The Ethiopian Case

Speaker: Dr. Geremew Sahilu Gebrie
Assistant Professor
Director of Graduate Education, Addis Ababa Institute of Technology
Interim Director, Water Resources Institute

Abstract: Any civilization is linked to water supply. Ancient and recent civilizations are in one way or the other related to water supply and, most recently, sanitation. In my presentation, I will cover the historical trends, then zoom into current research activities in the area of water supply.  I will focus on quality aspects while touching on quantity issues to some extent. The recent completion of the United Nation Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and the development of new Sustainability Development Goal (SDG) targets are compared, and research from the different corners of Ethiopia are presented. A water quality perspective of water supply, especially in relation to developing countries based on Ethiopian Case Studies, is presented.
