Undergraduate Studies

ASCE Regional Competition

The CEE undergraduate programs at the University of Michigan are traditional four-year programs of study resulting in Bachelor of Science in Engineering degrees in either Civil Engineering (BSE CE) or Environmental Engineering (BSE EnvE). There is also an option to earn a Minor in Environmental Engineering. Students in both degree programs receive a broad-based education and the rigorous preparation to succeed in a variety of careers and graduate fields within engineering and beyond.

Main Focus Areas

Civil Engineering:

  • Construction Engineering and Management
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Hydraulics and Hydrological Engineering
  • Materials Engineering
  • Structural Engineering

Environmental Engineering:

  • Water Quality and Health
  • Earth Systems
  • Environmental Fluid Dynamics
  • Environmental Policy and Sustainable Infrastructure

Interdisciplinary and Research Experiences

Civil and environmental engineers typically work on open-ended design problems in interdisciplinary teams. To acquire these types of experiences as a student, we encourage undergraduates to seek out research project experiences with faculty at the University.

Sequential Undergraduate/Graduate Studies (SUGS)

Students who do well in our undergraduate program are encouraged to consider graduate study. The SUGS program is available for students who graduate with a GPA of 3.5 and above. The program allows students to complete a Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering in one additional year by applying their undergraduate technical electives to both the bachelors and masters degrees.
